Multi-media filters use layers of different filter media — each with different density and particle size — to capture suspended solids throughout the full depth of the filter bed. This “depth filtration” gives longer runs between backwashes and better removal than single-media sand filters.

How long does the filter media last?
The quartz sand and gravel last 5+ years. Anthracite may need topping up every 2-3 years. Full media replacement is recommended every 3-5 years depending on water quality.

What Is Multi-Media Mechanical Filter?
A multi-media mechanical filter is a pressure-type filtration unit that uses multiple layers of filter media with different densities and particle sizes to remove suspended solids from water. Water flows downward through the media bed, with larger particles captured at the top and finer particles removed deeper in the bed.

What is the difference between a sand filter and a multi-media filter?
A sand filter uses only one type of media (sand) and captures particles mostly at the surface. A multi-media filter uses layers of anthracite, sand, and gravel with different densities, allowing depth filtration throughout the bed. This gives better removal efficiency and longer filter runs.
What is the maximum inlet SS the filter can handle?
We recommend inlet SS below 50 mg/L for optimal performance and filter run length. Higher inlet concentrations will work but will require more frequent backwashing. For high-SS water, we recommend adding a DAF or sedimentation tank before the filter.
Can the filter remove iron and manganese?
Yes, with the right media configuration. We can add manganese sand or activated carbon layers for iron and manganese removal. Please let us know your specific water quality so we can design the correct media combination.
How is the filter shipped and installed?
Filters are shipped fully assembled with media included. Simply connect inlet/outlet piping, backwash water supply, and power (for automatic models). We provide detailed installation drawings and can offer remote or on-site commissioning support.
